Paul Matisse, artist

Washington, DC

Paul Matisse is a world renowned artist and inventor, especially known for his interactive art installations.  He and Buckley collaborated extensively on the design, placement, and ideological meaning of the bell within the National Japanese American Memorial.  They later worked together on the installation of the Olympic Bell for the Athens 2004 Olympics.

Designed by Matisse, the Olympic Commemorative Bell is the latest of his interactive sound sculpture creations. The Bell reverberates the infectious sound of beauty and harmony, acknowledging the harmonious spirit of the games. Placed in Thiseion Square, close to the Ancient Agora (marketplace) and the Acropolis, its melody is carried by the wind. Davis Buckley Architects and Planners (DBA) advised Paul Matisse on the logistics, placement and design of the Olympic Commemorative Bell.
