Ray Kaskey, sculptor

Proposed Development: 1,115,400 sf
Washington, DC

Ray Kaskey is an American sculptor who studied architecture at Carnegie Melon University and Yale University, before establishing Kaskey Studio in 1983. As both a sculptor and an architect, Kaskey specializes in the creation of large scale civic art. In his work, he reinterprets classical themes from the ancient Greeks and Renaissance masters to resonate with today’s audiences.

Davis Buckley Architects and Planners (DBA) collaborated with Kaskey on the design of a monumental fountain and sculpture, to be located in the center of Anacostia Place, one of two exterior public gathering areas of this 1.15 million square foot Planned Urban Development.  The design of the sculpture celebrates the heritage of the Anacostia River through the depiction of the indigenous wildlife, flora and fauna of the river.
