The Bowie Railroad Museum Complex (c.1910) is a rare surviving example of small-scale rail junctions and is comprised of the Railroad Depot, Interlocking Tower, Messenger Waiting Shed and Old Town Bowie Welcome Center.  The museum offers visitors unique insight into the boom of the railroad towns during the late nineteenth century and how their growth and culture was directly related to the introduction of the town station. The complex was originally the center of the City of Bowie, hauling tobacco from the southern Maryland peninsula to the lucrative markets of the northeast.  The City purchased the buildings in 1992 and created the Bowie Railroad Museum which now offers visitors unique insight into the boom of railroad towns during the late nineteenth century and how their growth and culture was directly related to the introduction of the town station.   The Railroad Depot, Interlocking Tower and Messenger Waiting Shed are all held under easements by the National Park Service and Maryland Historical Trust as well as being listed in Prince George’s County Historic Sites and Districts Inventory.

Davis Buckley Architects and Planners (DBA) conducted a Conditions Assessment and Preservation Maintenance Plan for the historic Bowie Railroad Museum Complex for the City of Bowie, MD.

After submission of the Report, DBA was selected to develop and complete construction documents and bidding and negotiation services for the Priority A Scope Items listed in the Conditions Assessment and Maintenance Plan. Repairs to the Depot, Tower, and Messenger Waiting Shed are completed.
