Private Historic Residence
Interior Design, Historic Preservation, Renovation
Davis Buckley Architects and Planners (DBA) carried out the complete restoration, preservation and interior design of this 1790 Federal Style private residence in historic Georgetown. Exterior restoration involved the repair and refinishing of the exterior stucco, wood trim and flat copper roofs. The existing interior ornamental millwork was removed and extensive millwork was designed for the newly configured interior spaces. A new mechanical system and extensive structural repairs were needed in the 200,000 square foot residence. Retrofitted environmental systems and controls were installed to protect the Owner’s collection of Old Master paintings, including a Rembrandt portrait in the library.
In addition the restoration of the historic home, a 40-foot swimming pool and 300 square foot exercise room were added underneath the house by underpinning the structure and excavating 20 feet. Construction was phased so that the clients could occupy the residence during the entire construction period of the below grade pool and exercise room.
