WATERGATE RETAIL MALL
Site Design, Surveying Existing Conditions
Following the renovation of the Watergate hotel and restaurant, Davis Buckley Architects (DBA) redesigned the retail courtyard of the Watergate complex. Over the years, the waterproofing of the courtyard had deteriorated and consequentially, leaks had developed in numerous locations. Extensive repairs were carried out to restore the damaged structural slabs and inadequate drainage systems were improved. For the courtyard, DBA designed a new paving plan that drew from the design and large scale of the Watergate complex and state-of-the-art lighting, new signage, and courtyard landscape were all integrated into the space creating a cohesive environment among many different stores. As part of the scope of work, DBA designed many of the existing storefronts and developed a Storefront Design Manual guiding future façade designs.
